TWO AUDIENCE FAVORITES OF THE FESTIVAL: Le Missionnaire and Oceans

THREE SHORTS BY YOUNG FILMMAKERS RECEIVE PRIZES: La Ville de mes rêves, J’ai perdu mon frère and La Danse des Lollipops

AMAZING SUCCESS FOR THE FIRST EDITION OF THE EASTERN TOWNSHIPS FILM FESTIVAL

Brome Lake, Wednesday August 24th, 2011It was a very upbeat ending as

the first edition of the Eastern Townships Film Festival drew to a close – packed screenings, delighted audiences, glowing reviews from invited directors and actors. «I’ve been to a lot of festivals all over the world and I’ve never seen one of this caliber organized in less than three months,» enthused Barbara Shrier, producer of the closing film, The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom.

The Two Audience Favorites of the Festival

Both Roger Delattre’s Le Missionnaire (opening film) and Oceans co-directed by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud were big hits with festival-goers and organizers. Shot almost entirely inside a church Le Missionnaire screened to packed pews in the Knowlton United Church to open the festival. A great example of one of the objectives of the new festival – to give the spectator a unique viewing experience. «When the priest addresses the parishioners (in the movie), the audience almost felt as though they were part of the film,» explained Bohdana Zwonok, the festival’s co-founder and executive director. «For the screening of Oceans we had a huge gathering of spectators on Douglass Beach which again allowed us to offer our festival attendees an unusual setting for watching films. A lot of it is thanks to the incredible work done by the festival team, in particular by the programmers of the event, Pepita Ferrari and Albert Nerenberg,» Zwonok added.

A jury selected by Richard Leclerc, organizer of the first ShortandsweETFF competition, awarded prizes to two of the young participants. Winners in the 9 to 13 year-old category were Sandrine Villemure and Jade Barrette for their short film La Ville de mes rêves. In the 14 to 17 year-old category, the winner was Thomas Fontaine for J’ai perdu mon frère. The public, who voted online at the competition’s blogspot, selected Alice Dion-Laplante and Patricia Pessoa-Cruz as the winners for their short film La Danse des Lollipops.

Claude Chamberlan, artistic consultant and affectionately named «godfather» by the festival’s organizing committee, declared he is «…absolutely delighted with the success of this new-born festival.»
